... Love and politics can mix
15 January 2009

As Barack Obama's inauguration nears, the Boston Globe has been reminiscing about couples that began dating and fell in love on the campaign trial.

The publication cites the case of Harvard professors Cass R. Sunstein and Samantha Power who are high profile figures on the president-elect's campaign.

They met and fell in love last winter while working on the Obama campaign and were married in the summer.

However, couples who meet in such circumstances can often have quite fleeting relationships.

The Boston Globe quotes Richard Parker, a public policy professor at the Harvard's Kennedy School, who has explained that these types of relationships may not last.

Mr Parker explained: "Election-spawned relationships are usually intense, overly serious, and quite short."

Clearly some intense relationships do survive and the paper also quotes the story of Kristen Uekermann and Ray Coderre who met when they were supporting unsuccessful presidential candidates and both ended up working for John Kerry.

The pairing was definitely a love if not a political success and the couple were engaged after only two months of dating.ADNFCR-1043-ID-18976330-ADNFCR
